Roger Bilham and Ray Fall each received a Faculty Fellowship at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

John BirksJohn Birks, CIRES Fellow and professor of chemistry, received the Hazel Barnes Award, CU-Boulder's highest recognition for teaching and research.

Don David, Dale Hurst, Fred Moore, Eric Ray, and Ann Weickmann each received a CIRES Members' Council Award of Excellence.

Lee Church received a Certificate of Appreciation for Safety Support from MASC (Mountain Administrative Support Center), NOAA Safety Committee.

Rudolph Dichtl received an Award for Service in Antarctica from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Antarctic Research Program.

William M. Lewis, Jr.CIRES Fellows William M. Lewis, Jr. was named president of the American Society of Limnology and Oceanography and served as ASLO president 2002

 

Rex Pyles received an Outstanding Student Presentation award at the AMS (American Meteorological Society) 24th Conference on Agricultural and Forest Meteorology.

Michon Scott received Science Magazine's Hot Picks award and the Golden Brain Award from the Department of Earth and Space Science at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Robert SieversRobert Sievers received an Art Revue Magazine Award from the Foothills Gallery.

Susan SolomonSusan Solomon won the National Medal of Science, awarded annually by the U.S. president to eight outstanding researchers. Solomon was also awarded the Bonfils-Stanton Foundation Award for Science and Medicine. Solomon also won the Weizmann Women and Science Award, 2002.

Kristy Tiampo served on the AGU (American Geophysical Union) Committee on Geophysics.

Margaret TolbertMargaret Tolbert won Outstanding Paper Award at the Spring Meeting of the American Geophysical Union.

Harold Tyus was awarded rank of Fisheries Professional Emeritus by the American Fisheries Society and Emeritus Fellow by the American Institute of Fisheries Research Biologists.

 

Ed Westwater received from the World Meteorological Organization the Vilho Vaisala Award, which recognizes an outstanding research paper in the field of instruments and methods of observation.

Science Magazine recognized CIRES' National Snow and Ice Data Center About NSIDC ] for their State of the Cryosphere Web site for issue described the site for providing an overview of trends in glacier mass balance, sea ice extent, and other cryospheric parameters.

Conglong Zhao was named to Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
