Outstanding Performance Awards

CIRES' Outstanding Performance Awards program was established to recognize exceptional contributions by its members. Two award categories have been established since 2006, a Science and Engineering Award, and a Service Award. A sub-committee, composed of CIRES Members' Council (CMC) representatives, evaluates the nominations to select candidates who fulfill or exceed the 3 criteria defined for each award category.

Criteria for the Science and Engineering Award:

  1. Develop new scientific, engineering, and/or software tools that facilitate and encourage novel research, both within and external to CIRES;
  2. Participate in collaborative and/or multi-disciplinary research that engages a broader cross-section than the nominee's typical scientific or engineering community;
  3. Demonstrate uncommon initiative, resourcefulness, and/or scientific creativity conducting research with potential to expand or change the direction of a particular field or discipline.

Criteria for the Service Award:

  1. The service increases the efficiency and/or quality of research performed at CIRES;
  2. Implementation of a creative/innovative idea, device, process, or system that enhances CIRES research or assists in accomplishing the CIRES mission;
  3. The service promotes or inspires excellence and dedication to the science and research performed at CIRES.

After careful evaluation of each nomination according to these specified criteria, the CMC sub-committee makes recommendations for review and final award selection to the CIRES director and the entire body of CMC.
