Who works for CIRES and where?

CIRES employees consist of university faculty, research scientists, research associate scientists, administrative staff, and students. An internal career track was established in 1997 and serves to provide recognition to the non-faculty employees. The career track has been successful and we have tried to move a similar model forward with the university. There are approximately 500 employees. In addition we support other researchers and faculty outside of CIRES through research collaboration. These are not considered CIRES employees even though we may provide them with partial salary support for a given project.

Because of its size, CIRES occupies space in three main locations (map): Main Campus, East Campus, and within the David Skaggs Research Center on the Dept. of Commerce campus. Those employees collaborating most closely with NOAA scientists are generally co-located in the David Skaggs Research Center. Access between the sites has recently improved with the public transport "Skip" bus and the new "Colorado Stampede" service. The figure below indicates the space distribution at the three sites.
