Frequently Asked Questions >
How is CIRES reviewed?
Peer review of CIRES activities occurs in a variety of ways. Through the external review of science programs, CIRES receives feedback on the scientific contributions. These reviews include a NOAA review of CIRES done once every five years, as well as reviews of the individual laboratories, which implicitly include integrated looks at the CIRES research funded by the individual laboratories. In addition there is an exhaustive university review process every seven years that includes a self-study, an internal review, an external review, and a final summary report of recommendations by the standing program review panel. This review is done under the direction of the Provost.

reviews. When the occasion merits, an external review will be done specifically on a center or other large research activity. Recently, we have had reviews of the Western Water Assessment and the National Snow and Ice Data Center

Yearly informal reviews, primarily of management issues, are conducted at the annual Cooperative Institute Directors meetings held at AGU or AMS meetings or at OAR/NOAA headquarters in Silver Springs.
