James Lander was recognized for outstanding and long term research contribution by the 7th International Conference on Natural and Man-made Hazards, Crete.
William M. Lewis, Jr. was elected President, American Society of Limnology and Oceanography, the leading professional organization for researchers and educators in the field of aquatic science. Also in 1998, the International Society of Limnology honored Lewis with its highest medal, a lifetime achievement award, for his contributions to the study of lakes, ponds, and rivers. Lewis also received the Naumann-Thiemann Medal, from the International Society for Pure and Applied Limnology, Dublin, Ireland.
Brian Mapes received an Editor's Award from the Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences.
Richard Marchbanks received NOAA recognition for critical contributions to the NOAA Environmental Technology Laboratory (ETL).
Leroy Miller received an NSF International Research Fellow Award.
Lev Ostrovsky received an Orson Andersen Fellowship for research at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Ostrovsky was also included in the 1998-99 edition of Strathmore's Who's Who and the new editions of Marcius' Who's Who in the World; Who's Who in America; and Who's Who in Science and Engineering, as well as the reference book "Renowned Russians."
