Research Interests: Mechanisms for climate variability; prediction and predictability of extreme climate events.

Current Research Projects: Development of new approaches to predict risks of extreme climate events, particularly major droughts and floods; relationships between El Niño - Southern Oscillation and short-term climate extremes over the U.S.
