Apply for a CIRES Visiting Fellowship
Join a thriving research community in Boulder, Colorado for unique opportunities to conduct challenging research with recognized leaders in earth system science. Work with CIRES Fellows conducting interdisciplinary research in areas such as atmosphere and ocean processes, cryospheric processes, ecology and ecosystems, regional/global environmental variability and change, global water cycle, advanced observing systems, geophysics, global health, science and technology policy research, and space weather. Sponsored by the largest research institute within the University of Colorado at Boulder, among the top ten nationally in research funding, CIRES' fellowships stimulate interdisciplinary research with university science partners and our NOAA science partners.
The Visiting Fellows program invites scientists ranging from recent doctoral graduates, to those on sabbattical, to senior scientists from many disciplines to continue their education in research positions that may foster interdisciplinary training and exposure to scientific assessments and policy research. These positions are open to scientists with research interests in the areas of the CIRES research themes.
Up to 12 awards may be made to Ph.D. scientists at all levels (Visiting Fellowships) and faculty planning sabbatical leave (Sabbatical Fellowships). Postdoctoral fellowships are awarded for one year; a second year may be available from other funding sources. Sabbatical fellowships are awarded for up to one year. Selections for this Visiting Fellows Program are based in part on the likelihood of interactions between the Visiting Fellows and the scientists at CIRES and the degree to which both parties will benefit from the exchange of new ideas. To further this goal, priority is given to candidates with research experience at institutions outside the Boulder scientific community.
Who is eligible?
The Visiting Fellowship program is open to scientists from around the globe, and appointments can begin at any time during the year. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and cost of living considerations. The Fellow will be eligible for benefits, office space, telephone and computer facilities, and a small moving and start-up allowance. Scientists employed by CIRES are not eligible for Visiting Fellowships.
