More About the CIRES Visiting Fellows Program, 2014-2015

With NOAA support, CIRES offers Visiting Fellowships at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Our Visiting Fellows program was created to foster interdisciplinary research with university and NOAA science partners. Visiting Fellows work with CIRES Fellows to conduct interdisciplinary research across six divisions that include: Cryosphere and Polar Processes, Environmental Observations, Modeling, and Forecasting, Environmental Chemistry, Ecosystem Science, Solid Earth Sciences, and Weather and Climate Dynamics.

Fellowship Types:
Up to 12 Visiting Fellowships are awarded annually to early and mid-career Ph.D. scientists (Postdoctoral Fellowships) and for faculty planning sabbatical leave (Sabbatical Fellowships).

Application Review and Selection:
Applications are evaluated by a committee of CIRES Fellows, based on the following criteria:

  • An established CIRES sponsor
  • The proposed research is significant and relevant to the interdisciplinary focus of CIRES
  • The quality of a candidate's previous research and their contribution is likely to make a significant impact to the proposed field.
  • The research will benefit from being conducted specifically at CIRES.

Selections for the Visiting Fellows Program are based in part on the likelihood of interactions between the Visiting Fellows and the scientists at CIRES and the degree to which both parties will benefit from the exchange of new ideas. To further this goal, priority is given to candidates with research experience at institutions outside the Boulder scientific community. Current CIRES research faculty, CIRES postdocs, and CIRES graduate students are not eligible to apply.
