Linking Weather and Climate

This position would be hosted in the Physical Sciences Division of ESRL where current research is addressing coupling between the tropics, mid-latitudes, and the polar regions on both weather and climate time scales. A wide range of research opportunities exist, including but not limited to process and predictability studies of tropical influences on mid-latitude coastal land-falling storms (atmospheric rivers), of the effect of a warming ocean on polar circulations and polar-mid-latitude feedbacks, of changes in high-latitude surface properties and their role in climate change and the high-latitude carbon budget, and of attribution studies examining observed weather extremes, that occur on daily-to-seasonal time scales, in the context of a changing climate.
