Surface Processes and Energy Budgets in High Latitudes

A wide variety of research opportunities exist at the NOAA Earth Systems Research laboratory that can be utilized to perform cutting edge research on high-latitude processes. Since 2003, NOAA has spearheaded a program to organize and enhance a number of Arctic Atmospheric Observatories as well as ship-based observing programs aboard icebreakers that have penetrated deep into the Arctic ice pack. In addition, we are carrying out research in both Antarctica and Greenland seeking to explain atmospheric boundary layer effects on chemical exchange processes between snow/ice surfaces and the atmosphere.
