Brown Canyon Ranch Project

Grade Level and content Area:

Grade Levels—mixed 9 through 12

E-Science Atmospheric, Soil Hydrology, Astronomy, Geology

Biology Hydrology, Land-cover (MUC) Season, Ecology

Ranch Work

Time—will be scheduled by semester on going studies in teams of 2 to 3 students. The teams will include 9 through 12 students for peer teaching.

Links to Science Standards—will use AZ State Standards where applicable and class instruction where needed.

Backgrounds Needs—Team building training and review. Content prerequisites will be basic Language Arts, Math, and Social Science requirements.

Learning Objectives—Develop good sound back ground for problem solving.

Procedures

  1. Outline class expectations
  2. Outline topics for inquiry (80% team driven)
  3. Outline topics for beginning inquiry (60 % team and 40% support)
  4. Teacher drive because of various reasons (10% of each class -bookwork)

Assessment—participation, student response, key topic quiz, book reports and final project report (inquiry).

Enrichment—work in field 80 of time, outside instructor for specific needs, field trips, increase contact with scientists.

Resources—support all areas of Administration and private.

Biggest is self-esteem.
