Ecological Disturbance/ Succession/Biomes (2003)

Grade level: 10-12

Content Area: Environmental Science

Time: 2 weeks (1 in school, 1 in field)

Standards: Inquiry, methodology, communication, etc...

Background knowledge/skills: Culmination of unit on ecology/habitats

Objectives: Students will be able to describe, explain and enhance habitat and ecological issues of different critters.

Materials: GPS,GIS(Arcware), bus, tools, and they determine what materials they need, provided by Open Space Entity

Procedures:

Working with graduate students from the College of natural Resources at CSU, and with GPS Units in conjunction with ArcView (GIS)

  1. Develop written plan for enhancing the wildlife habitat for one of the local natural or open space areas. (Did you know that Boulder County recently purchased the Argo mine at the bottom of the hill as open space?

Assessment: This will be a portfolio project and grades will be partly determined by success of habitat improvement/enhancement

Enrichment/Reflection: After I do it.
