Connecting the global oceans to inland audiences
Exploring Connections between the Global Oceans and the Inland Southwest is a teacher professional development course that offers a new ocean and climate topic each year delivered by scientist lectures on their cutting edge research with accompanying activities.
Colorado teachers will earn 2 semester hours of graduate teacher credit and will receive a $250 stipend if they complete the full course which includes:
- 2 half-day Saturday workshops in the spring
- 1 week-long Summer Institute
Rural teachers can participate in the half-day workshops via videoconferencing through participating BOCES. Expenses for travel to and accommodations for the Summer Institute will be covered by the grant. Please contact Lesley Smith for more information.
Teachers also have the option of attending only the lectures to gain insights into scientists’ research but will not earn teacher education credit.
Continuing this year!
We will have an exchange program with COSEE West. Please visit http://www.usc.edu/org/cosee-west/workshops.html for details and an application. Five Colorado teachers will be sent - all expenses paid - to Los Angeles to participate in their Ocean Observing Systems July 30 - August 3, 2012
Check out the teacher blog for daily highlights.
"Living in Steamboat makes it difficult to take workshops, especially in the winter. The COSEE video conference made it easy. I felt like I was there."
CIRES scientist Ola Persson interacts with teachers before his lecture to explain the concept of expanding and contracting gases.
