DLESE 2003 MEETING:

Who should attend

We hope for strong participation from educators at all levels, curriculum developers, materials developers, content/data providers, researchers, service providers, and library creators. This meeting will provide a unique opportunity for these stakeholders to collaborate and participate in DLESE's continuing development.

Educators: You will meet K-12 teachers, community college faculty, 4-year undergraduate and graduate faculty, and informal education specialists engaging in discussion about using state-of-the-art educational materials. Even better, you will get a chance to network with materials developers, collections builders, and library builders so that you can influence the library to more accurately reflect your own needs and interest.

Curriculum Developers: Test drive DLESE to develop a project that interests you. Network with educators and make your needs known to collections builders and materials developers.

Materials Developers: Identify the needs of educators and find out what kinds of challenges they must meet when implementing curricula with DLESE materials. We hope that this process will provide fertile ground for new ideas and provide feedback on existing materials.

Library Builders: Watch the DLESE community use your creation. The Annual meeting provides a rich opportunity to observe users in action. The feedback will help you improve DLESE and better serve the community.

Content/Data Providers: Observe, in action, the issues educators face when attempting to use real data. Using data in the classroom can be very challenging for educators who are not specialists in a specific field, and who may have minimal science training. What kinds of data are useful to educators? What are the technological challenges they face?

Research Scientists: You will have the opportunity to engage with educators and curriculum builders to discuss ways to link research findings with educational practice, and discuss ways to promote the participation of students and faculty in research programs.

To all: Designated time for networking with your fellow specialists will be provided, and there will be many informal opportunities for networking.
