APES Biome Study Project

Grade level: HS

Content Area: AP Environmental/IB Env. Systems

Time: 1 semester (Spring 2004; Feb-June)

Standards: Meets requirements for both AP and IB programs

Background knowledge/skills: Project intended as summary activity for year's course of study. Students will have covered basics by beginning and global problems by end of April.

Objectives:Students will identify and study a selected problem/question relevant to their chosen habitat.

Materials: Salt/fresh water test kits, air and soil chemistry kits, GPS, video camera, computers, transect lines and quadrants, compass, sling psychrometer

Procedures: I will provide basic instruction in methodologies and field intros to local habitats

Assessment: Students will present a summary video including habitat description, question, data and analysis, and final summary.
