Sandra Laursen has a Ph.D. in physical chemistry, with research experience in gas- and condensed-phase photochemistry, free radical chemistry, and atmospheric chemical kinetics. She has taught courses and workshops in chemistry and Earth science to undergraduate science students and to pre-service and in-service teachers. She has coauthored several ChemConnections modules and instructor resources for teaching fundamental chemistry concepts through real-world questions and active learning strategies, published by W. W. Norton. She has conducted professional development workshops on Earth science topics, active learning strategies, and inquiry-based science teaching for science educators, college faculty, K-12 teachers, scientists, and the public. In addition to her work with CIRES Outreach, Laursen collaborates with social scientists in the Ethnography and Evaluation Research group at CU Boulder to conduct research on innovative science teaching methods and programs and on issues of diversity and leadership in the scientific community.
