Workshops: Scientific Inquiry in the K-12 Classroom

To meet requirements by funding agencies to demonstrate the "broader impact" of their scientific research, many researchers are working with educators to bring their science to K-16 classrooms. We offer a workshop designed to help researchers begin to do this effectively, focusing on scientific inquiry—how scientists "do" science—and considering how scientists can bring their expertise in inquiry to their education activities.

This half-day workshop has been developed especially for scientists and science educators interested in contributing to K-16 science education. Workshop activities will provide participants with an overview of the research base behind inquiry teaching and learning, an introduction to national standards for inquiry-based K-12 science education, and some hands-on examples of how inquiry can look in the classroom.

We can also extend the workshop to customize it to groups with a particular interest. Please contact us if you are interested in hosting a workshop: Sandra Laursen, sandraDOTlaursenATcoloradoDOTedu 303-492-5431.
