Lancaster, Mike. THE PARTNERSHIP APPROACH TO GREEN CHEMICAL TECHNOLOGY
Green Chemistry Netowrk, Department of Chemistry, University of York, York YO10 5DD, U.K. (ml13@york.ac.uk)
A new industry / academic partnership for a 'Greener Chemical Industry' has recently been established with funding from the UK Government. This unique partnership brings together leading players from all sections of the chemistry and chemical engineering community for the first time through its hub partners - The Royal Society of Chemistry, The Institution of Chemical Engineers and The Chemical Industries Association.
The aim of the partnership is to improve and develop the UK science and technology base by providing a virtual centre of excellence in low cost green manufacturing technologies and practices. The key deliverables and programmes for this partnership will be discussed and related to existing UK expertise.
It is now widely recognised that in order to develop a greener industry we need more chemists and engineers trained in the relevant technologies and 'culture'. Development of education and training materials covering most age groups is now taking place and examples of initiatives from the Green Chemistry Network and others will be discussed.
