Bubble columns are commonly used in industry for pollutant gas treatment. They allow treating both acid gases and dusts. The downflow bubble column is attractive not only for complete utilization of gaseous or highly volatile reactants but also for treatment of gases having offensive odours. The aim of our paper is to experimentally study a co-current air-liquid downflow bubble column with air entrainment by liquid injection nozzle. One of the originalities of this study lies in the presence of a continuous liquid jet, which ensures transfer and dispersion of the gas phase. The study consists of a determination of the effects of several parameters, such as the nozzle type, the liquid velocity, etc., on the gas entrainment flow rate and gas holdup. The determination of the volumetric mass transfer coefficient, the bubble diameters and the interfacial area are also presented.
