Rendezvous 2012 -- Tuesday, April 24

CIRES Members:

I am pleased to announce that CIRES will present Rendezvous, our seventh institute-wide symposium on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. The CIRES Members' Council is planning this half-day of posters and presentations to familiarize you with the depth, breadth, and quality of the pacesetting science being done at CIRES. We hope to encourage collaborations that might result in new interdisciplinary research, and to facilitate connections among our many innovative scientists, science support staff, and administrative staff.

This year the entire afternoon is devoted to posters, which is the most interesting and interactive way to present the variety of research at the institute. We are happy for you to present posters that may have been presented previously at AMS, AGU, ACS, or other meetings. Of course, you are free to develop a new poster or present new work.

Poster submissions will be made directly online by members. After the submission deadline, the Rendezvous Committee will survey the number of submitted abstracts from each division and report a final number to the Division Directors who will build an acceptance list.  The Rendezvous Committee will strive to accommodate all submissions. We hope to include more than 100 posters.

Venue:  The Tennis Bubble Located at The Millennium Harvest House Hotel

Agenda:

Poster presenters please come between 10:30 and 11:30 to hang your posters

All others please allow some time to check-in before lunch begins

11:30 – 12:45 Luncheon (continued during State of the Institute address)
12:15 – 12:45 Director's State of the Institute Address
12:45 – 1:30 Awards ceremony
1:45 – 3:00 Poster Session I
3:00 – 4:45 Poster Session II and Happy Hour
4:45 – 4:50 Director's Closing Remarks

We are fortunate to again find ample space for this event at the Millennium Harvest House. Poster presenters will be at their posters for the poster session after lunch. Catered lunch will include a brief "State of the Institute" address and our annual CIRES awards ceremony, featuring presentation of the Outstanding Performance Awards, the annual program administered by your CIRES Members' Council.

I am excited about this event, but it can only be successful if you help make it so. Everyone at CIRES is very strongly encouraged to attend for the full schedule. Science advisors and NOAA and CU administrators will also be invited. We are responding here to calls over the years to publicize what we do throughout the institute. Further communication about the event will be forthcoming, but mark your calendars now, and plan to join your many colleagues for this fun and interesting day.
