CIRES' Annual, Institute-wide Symposium    [ Home  |  Archives ]

CIRES Members:

I am pleased to announce that CIRES is again presenting the Rendezvous, our third institute-wide symposium on Wednesday, April 2, 2008. The CIRES Members' Council is planning this full-day of posters and presentations to familiarize you with the depth, breadth, and quality of the pacesetting science being done at CIRES. We hope to encourage collaborations that might result in new interdisciplinary research, and to facilitate connections among our many innovative scientists, science support staff and administrative staff.

This year much of the day (agenda) is devoted to posters, which is the most interesting and interactive way to present the variety of research at the institute. We are happy for you to present posters that may have been presented previously at AMS, AGU, ACS, or other meetings. Of course, you are free to develop a new poster or present new work. Please contact the director of your unit if you wish to have your poster included. We are hoping to include approximately 80 posters.

The Rendezvous will begin at 8:30 AM (breakfast and poster set-up available at 7:30), and we plan to finish by 4:30 PM. We are fortunate to again find ample space for this event on the Club Level of Folsom Stadium (venue). Presenters include Associate Directors of the CIRES Divisions or their delegate, and the Directors of the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research and the Education Outreach Program. All posters will be posted the entire day, and presenters will be at their posters for one of the two poster sessions. Catered Lunch will be followed by a brief "State of the Institute" address and presentation of the Outstanding Performance Awards, another program administered by the CIRES Members' Council.

I am again excited about this event, but it can only be successful if you help make it so. Everyone at CIRES is very strongly encouraged to attend for the full day. Science advisors and NOAA and CU administrators will also be invited. We are responding here to calls over the years to publicize what we do throughout the institute. Further communication about the event will be forthcoming, but mark your calendars now, and plan to join your many colleagues for this fun and interesting day.
