Science Rendezvous > Posters An Examination of NOx, SO2, and CO Emissions from East Texas Power Plants Jeff Peischl (1), Thomas B. Ryerson (2), John S. Holloway (1), Ken C. Aikin (1), Greg J. Frost (1), Fred C. Fehsenfeld (1) (1) CIRES, (2) NOAA ESRL CSD Emissions were measured from aircraft down-wind of seven East Texas power plants during the 2000 and 2006 Texas Air Quality Studies. One-second measurements were made of NOy, SO2, CO, and CO2 during these flights. Emission ratios of NOy, SO2, and CO to CO2 were calculated from the closest down-wind plume transects. Emission ratios were also calculated with hourly data from the Continuous Emission Monitoring System (CEMS). The aircraft data show substantial (25-80 percent) reductions in NOx emissions from four of the power plants between 2000 to 2006, whereas SO2 and CO emissions from all plants appear to be largely unchanged in that time. Emission ratios calculated from the aircraft and from hourly CEMS data in 2006 agree to within an average of approximately 10 percent. |
