Jan 2004 USNC/URSI Meeting Student Travel Support
[Biographies, Registration and Hotel forms due with Abstracts Sept 19th]
2004 Student Financial Support Application
The Student Travel Support Program for the USNC/URSI January Meeting is a new undertaking, so the details will be formulated during the next few months. USNC/URSI intends to provide full support to all qualifying students, but whether or not this is possible in the first year of the program is yet to be determined. If available funds are not sufficient for full support of all students, USNC/URSI intends to provide at least partial support to qualifying students.
Travel support will be available to students from US institutions who attend the January 2004 USNC/URSI Meeting in Boulder and present an accepted paper as a first author. In addition, their meeting registration fees will be waived. Preference will be given to graduate students, but undergraduates (who are involved or experienced enough to be a first author) can also apply.
Non-local students will have their airfares reimbursed (see guidelines below) and will receive a small meal per diem of $30/day for up to 4 days and they will be reimbursed for housing at the rate of triple-room occupancy in the local hotels (~$33/day/person). Local students are considered to be those from Boulder, Ft Collins, or within 56 miles of Boulder. Local students may apply for a mileage stipend.
Students who receive financial support can bring a spouse and children, but will have to pay separately for their lodging at the hotel. The Biography and Application for Student Financial Support Form should be received by
September 19th, together with the submission of abstracts . All students who wish to apply for support must fill out the form.Students need to make their own airline and hotel arrangements, either through their institutions, through travel agents, or on-line at:
We recommend students get their tickets on-line to avoid the increasingly large processing fees.
The round-trip prices between the following cities and Denver were applicable for August 2003 using United and Frontier Airlines assuming an arrival date of Saturday January 3. Please note that fares change radically and often. Taxes and processing fees are included in these prices.
Students further than 50 miles from their airport (100 miles round trip), can get $0.28/mile for their trips to the airport also. Shuttle costs between the Denver International Airport (DIA) and Longmont (or Boulder) are not reimbursed.
To be reimbursed for a flight, we need to have the name of the traveler, an itinerary with dates and locations, and the price of the ticket, including taxes and any listed processing fee.
The prices below assume a Saturday night stay, and 21 day advance purchase.
