Group Printer Preferences

Hi all,

One quick note on the lab printer: I often see people printing long documents single-sided, rather than double sided, on this printer. This wastes paper and also space in your desks, binders, etc.

For PCs, there is an easy way to set the default printing to double-sided. Just open the "printers" folder from the "start" menu. Then right-click on the lab printer and select "printer preferences." (OR in XP: click on Control Panel from the "start" menu, click on printers, then right click on the lab printer to select printer preferences.) This will bring up the same dialog that you normally get when you want to print something. Change it so that it prints double-sided and in greyscale, and then every single document you print from that computer will be BW double-sided, unless you specify otherwise for that particular document.

If you don't get the option to print double-sided, that means that you installed the wrong driver for the printer. You need to install it as an HP 4600dn. You can borrow the disk from our software binder and reinstall it as such, or download the driver from HP's web page and reinstall.

I don't know how to do this on a Mac, but I am sure there must be a way. If someone figures it out, please email the groups.

Cheers,
-Jose
