CIRES/Limnology Manager, Environmental Analytical Laboratory
The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) in Boulder, Colorado and the Center for Limnology of the University of Colorado Boulder seeks a manager for its analytical laboratory, which conducts physical and chemical testing of water samples for varied aquatic environments in Colorado. The professional research assistant would be responsible for becoming familiar with all procedures that are used in the laboratory currently, with the operation of instrumentation that is used in analytical work, and with the preparation and processing of samples. The manager will participate in routine analytical activities but also will oversee the work of other employees in the laboratory and become familiar with quality control criteria for the relevant analyses. Mandatory for applicants is meaningful background or experience with chemical analysis involving wet chemistry and use of instruments, aptitude for oversight or supervision of employees, experience or capability in data entry and data management, and an interest in environmental water quality. The employee may also participate in field work (e.g., 20% time). Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline as well as coursework or experience that would be useful for the position. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and ability to swim. Compensation will reflect experience and aptitude for tasks that are important for the position as described here.
