Limnology is the scientific study of the life and phenomena of inland water, including lakes, rivers, streams and wetlands. The Center for Limnology at CIRES exists to promote research and teaching related to inland aquatic ecosystems, including lakes, streams, and wetlands.
An internationally recognized leader in innovative environmental science and research, CIRES is jointly sponsored by the University of Colorado at Boulder and the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research at NOAA.
