The National Ocean Sciences Bowl is a program of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership based in Washington, D.C. NOSB seeks to energize students to pursue future studies and careers in the ocean sciences. This year's competition is expected to involve approximately 2,000 students from over 300 high schools.

Regional bowl qualifying teams will travel to the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History in April to compete in the National Ocean Sciences Bowl finals in the museum's new Ocean Hall. In 2008, Colorado's Poudre High team made the top eight national teams.

The Mountain Mariner Challenge regional bowl is hosted by CIRES, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, a joint institute of NOAA and CU-Boulder.
