Hazel Bain
CIRES Senior Research Scientist

- Ph.D. Physics and Astronomy, University of Glasgow, 2010
- M.Sci (Hons), Physics and Astronomy, University of Glasgow, 2006
Research Interests
Bain’s work at NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) involves development of space weather models and applications to be used by forecasters. She leads the center’s efforts in radiation storm forecasting in support of the aviation and human space exploration industries. Her research includes understanding and forecasting solar energetic particle events. Her work directly supports NASA’s Artemis lunar missions, contributing critical space weather forecasting capabilities to ensure astronaut safety during deep space travel.
She is also the CIRES Lead at SWPC.
