Research Interests

Dr. Correia is currently the HydroMeteorological Testbed (HMT) Coordinator at the Weather Prediction Center, supported by CIRES at CU Boulder. He has extensive experience working in NOAA testbeds, a space to test and demonstrate new technologies, data, or techniques, for the last 12 years. He spent 8.5 years in the Hazardous Weather Testbed Spring Forecasting Experiment mining Convection Permitting Models (CPM) using object based techniques to quantify multivariate storm properties (storm based model climate) as it related to severe weather. He spent 2 years participating in the Probabilistic Hazard Information experiment designing and executing object based tornado hazard guidance from the warn on forecast ensemble for warning forecasters to use in real time and displaced real time events. Over the last 3.5 years he has coordinated HMT experiments for Winter, and Flash Flood and Intense Rainfall. As a former liaison with the social science community, while at SPC/OU CIMMS, he continues to pursue opportunities for convergent research. Additionally, he continues to work on verification techniques using signal detection theory to assess rare event forecasts, and designing testbed experiments around improving human understanding and performance in using CPM forecasts.

About CECA

CECA connects and creates a supportive environment for graduate students and postdocs who come from various academic units to do research in CIRES.
