At CIRES, the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, more than 800 environmental scientists work to understand the dynamic Earth system, including people’s relationship with the planet. What your key responsibilities will be:
In this role, working within a four-person team, you’ll support the communication of CIRES’ mission, research, and other activities. This team strives to provide excellent and effective communications service to CIRES and CIRES scientists. From 140-character social media posts to 200-page annual reports, our work helps our funders, the general public, media, policy makers, and scientific colleagues understand the value of CIRES research. Your work will include managing our Annual Report and other communications projects, copy editing, social media engagement, tracking news clips, organizing our team’s schedules, and producing an e-newsletter. What we can offer:
Annual compensation is targeted for the upper $40’s to low $50’s, depending upon relevant background and experience. What we require:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, or science (with demonstrated communications experience, if the latter).
Two years of work experience in an office environment with social media or editing responsibilities.
What you will need:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to interpret and write about complex and technical material for a general audience.
Ability to understand concepts in environmental and related sciences.
Ability to creatively solve problems and productively manage multiple tasks.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including PowerPoint and Excel.
Proficiency with Twitter and Facebook.
Excellent organization and time-management skills.
Ability to self-manage projects and work in a teams-oriented environment as well as independently.
What we’d like you to have:
Experience with web content management systems (i.e., Drupal)
Experience with design and publication applications (i.e., InDesign)
Ability to learn new programs and applications quickly (i.e., online spreadsheet and calendar systems).
Demonstrated leadership in teamwork situations.
Experience writing for diverse audiences about scientific findings.
Demonstrated ability to generate new ideas and make them happen.
Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
