Call for Media Grad Students for Arctic Opportunity

Calling film, photo, or art graduate students interested in the Arctic

The MOSAiC (Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate; (https://www.mosaic-expedition.org/) and NEST (Nature, Environment, Science & Technology) Studio for the Arts (www.colorado.edu/nest) invite any graduate students at the University of Colorado Boulder to apply to participate as a media expert in the MOSAiC expedition on the German research vessel Polarstern in 2019-2020.

The MOSAiC Coordination Office is seeking application from graduate students with cinematography, photography, and/or videography experience, who are enthusiastic to participate in gathering image data, sending communiques to the public, and creating their own work while aboard the ship.

Expectation: You will be part of a team, both onboard and back at CU, that is developing multi-media content around the expedition, including content for a Fiske Planetarium show. You will be expected to do some routine communication for MOSAiC in general (blog-type entry, photo of the day, etc.) and you will be expected to capture multi-media content based on a shot list and the evolving conditions in the field. You will have time to pursue your own projects.

Payment: You will be paid a GRA salary and receive tuition benefit for one semester; travel to and from Norway will be covered. If selected, we will work closely with your department and advisor to make this feasible for your graduation plans. You can apply for additional summer salary funding to complete your product.

Life on board the ship: You will share a room (2 people) on board the ship with up to 100 people. All meals are provided on the ship. Extreme weather gear and safety training will be provided. You must commit to participating in the full expedition leg – an early return is not possible. You will have text email communication but no internet.
