ED34B - Climate Literacy: Moving Broad Audiences from Knowledge to Action I

ED34B - Climate Literacy: Moving Broad Audiences from Knowledge to Action I

Primary Convener: Katie Boyd

Preparing tomorrow’s decision makers to address the impacts of a changing climate and develop long-term resilience plans is crucial. Climate change communication efforts have mainly focused on informing the public of the scientific evidence of causes and impacts, but the dire warnings from the 2018 IPCC Special Report make it evident that information alone is not enough. If we are to alleviate the worst effects of a warming Earth, it is more urgent than ever that communities are engaged to bring about mitigation and adaptation solutions. This session will showcase the wide variety of innovative education and communication strategies, resources, and initiatives that have been successful with diverse audiences for increasing climate literacy and translating climate knowledge to action. The session will focus on work done on the front lines of climate change, such as youth initiatives, community-based projects, and informal/environmental education programs.
