Grand Wash Cliffs, western edge of the Colorado Plateau, from Whitney Pass area in southeastern Nevada. Initial view is of the west end of the Grand Canyon where the Colorado River leaves the Plateau. Grand Wash Fault is responsible for the escarpment. East-tilted fault blocks of the Lake Mead extensional domain are visible all along the view. At far left a surface can be seen truncating the tilted sediments; this is probably on grade with the top of the post-tectonic Muddy Creek basin. March 29, 2007.
