Michael Jones

R. Michael Jones

received his b.s. in physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1959 and his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Colorado in 1968.

He performed research at the U.S. Department of Commerce from 1961 through 1993, first for the National Bureau of Standards and later for NOAA. He is now with CIRES (Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences) of the University of Colorado.

His fields of research have covered ionospheric radio wave propagation, diffraction, internal wave dynamics, acoustic wave propagation in the ocean and atmosphere, ocean acoustic tomography, and limits of predictability in fluids.

Here are some selected publications. Here is a complete publications list. Here are journal publications, papers published in conference proceedings, book chapters, papers presented at conferences, and reports or preprints.

Present research:
  1. limits of predictability in fluids
  2. Generalizing the dispersion relation for internal gravity waves in fluids from the barotropic to the baroclinic case
