CIRES Centers
CIRES is home to five centers, which together represent historical and current thrusts within the CIRES research themes. In some cases the centers are a consequence of block funding from a particular agency for a particular activity, as for example the National Snow and Ice Data Center. In other cases, the centers are a means of providing an identity to a major focus of work within the Institute, for example, the Center for Science and Technology Policy Research, the Climate Diagnostics Center, and the Center for the Study of Earth from Space and the Center for Limnology.
|
Center for Limnology
The center promotes research and teaching related to inland aquatic ecosystems, including lakes, streams, and wetlands.
Center for Science and Technology Policy Research. This center works to improve how science and technology policies address societal needs, including research, education and service.
Center for the Study of Earth from Space
CSES brings together a diverse set of disciplines to study the Earth and its global systems through use of the tools of remote sensing. Its members are dedicated to teaching these tools to the next generation of Earth scientists.
|
Climate Diagnostics Center
The Climate Diagnostics Center (CDC) develops and applies climate diagnostic techniques to increase understanding of the causes of observed climate variations and improve models used for climate analyses, predictions, and assessments.
National Snow and Ice Data Center
NSIDC supports research into our world's frozen realms: the snow, ice, glacier, frozen ground, and climate interactions that make up Earth's cryosphere. Scientific data, whether taken in the field or relayed from satellites orbiting Earth, form the foundation for the scientific research that informs the world about our planet and our climate systems.
