Our Research—The Molecular Evolution of Catalysts

Research interests of the Copley group include molecular evolution of enzymes and metabolic pathways; mechanistic enzymology; biodegradation of xenobiotic pollutants; bioinformatics. Our research centers on the molecular evolution of catalysts in two primary areas: 1) the evolution of protein enzymes to serve new functions; and 2) the role of simple catalysts on the early Earth before the emergence of macromolecules.
