Notes for Prospective Students
Graduate Student Research Assistantships at
the University of Colorado, Boulder
Qualified students are encouraged to apply for graduate student research assistantships in the geophysics group of the Department of Geological Sciences at the University of Colorado. Candidates with a strong quantitative background and with computer expertise are particularly welcome. Good initiative and communication skills are essential. Students interested in
the Ph.D. program are given higher consideration for funding (M.S. is not required for entry to Ph.D. program).
Research projects available focus on passive seismic imaging of tectonically active regions, earthquake hazards, crustal deformation, and hydrogeophysics. See research projects
for examples of ongoing and past projects and recent publications
for recent publications, many of which can be downloaded as pdf's.
Fall 2008 projects available include
- Boulder Creek Critical Zone Observatory hydrogeophysics (exploration geophysics of the shallow subsurface - GPR, electrical methods, seismic)
- Earthquake seismology
- passive source imaging of crustal faults
- crust and mantle anisotropy and its relation to tectonics
- other earthquake seismology projects to be determined with advisor
- Rio Grande Rift GPS
Admissions information is available at www.colorado.edu/GeolSci/newgrad.html.
