Data Products
CIRES' National Snow and Ice Data Center
[ About NSIDC ]
is a primary provider of data products within CIRES. The Data Center archives and distributes hundreds of cryospheric data products to researchers, commercial applications users, and others worldwide. In 1990, NASA awarded NSIDC a contract to establish the Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) and it has operated continuously since then. The DAAC is the major satellite data management facility within CIRES. As of December 2004, its computer archive holds 76 TB of digital data and ingests and distributes about 7 TB per month. For more information about the NSIDC DAAC, see nsidc.org/daac.
Many of the research groups within CIRES also make their data available to the public, as do many individual scientists within the Institute. The data products listed here represent only a sample of the data products produced by CIRES.
Atmospheric Data |
CIRES Fellow Margaret Tolbert provides viewable and downloadable files from certain projects for her atmospheric research group at CIRES. To access these data, see Tolbert Research Group. |

Climate Data and Information |
The Climate Diagnostics Center
[ About CDC ]
maintains a large collection of data sets to support climate research and attempts to make these data freely accessible to the world within the limits of their resources.
Access these data and resources:

The Climate Diagnostics Center also offers climate and weather data and information for Boulder, Colorado and the Western United States, including climatologies, records and raw data; temperature data, precipitation and snowfall data; and severe weather and thunderstorm information.

Cryospheric Data and Information |
CIRES' National Snow and Ice Data Center
[ About NSIDC ]
provides cryospheric data and information gathered from such sources as remote sensing instruments, ground measurements, and models. NSIDC offers hundreds of cryospheric data products and services to researchers, commercial applications users, and others worldwide.
Access these data:
nsidc.org/data
CIRES' Steffen Research Group provides cryospheric climate data and information collected via automatic weather stations (AWS) on Greenland's ice sheet. These data are accessible through the Greenland Climate Network (GC-Net).

Geologic Data |
CIRES Fellow Roger Bilham provides earthquake and tectonic data and information.
CIRES Fellow Craig Jones provides geologic data - seismology, tectonophysics, paleomagnetism, field geology, gravity, magnetics, and structural geology data - from the western United States. To access these data, see C.H. Jones data sets.
