The objective in the class is to understand the principles of scientific enquiry in general, and that of geological enquiry in particular. By the end of the class you will be familiar with the methods we use to study the earth and the processes at work on the surface and at depth. A result of this class you will be able to recognize rocks, minerals, geological features and processes on the planet upon which we live.

During class there will be occasional clicker questions on materials discussed that day and in previous days.

Class grades will be based on a score for each half of the class (50%) that will be summed to provide a final percentage (100%) from which a grade will be assessed.

In the first half of the class there will be two written quizzes (10% each), and a final exam (30%). There is no extra credit.
