Research Interests

Benjamin Dillon Hamlington is interested in a variety of applications of satellite sensor data in studies of Earth's ocean system. He has identified and explained signals contributing to regional and global sea level variability and trends.

Of particular interest are sea level hazards, specifically, altimetric monitoring of tsunamis and sea level rise.

He has used satellite altimetry to focus on the detection of tsunamis in the open ocean for the purpose of providing early warning to coastal inhabitants and to focus on estimating secular trends using satellite altimetry data with the hope of improving our understanding of future sea level change.
