Soil moisture data assimilation to estimate irrigation water use. You can find the full study published in the AGU JAMES Journal here

REESEN Remotely Sensed Ensemble Water Balance. The goal of the REESEN is to improve understanding of the water cycle through a first-of-its-kind probabilistic ensemble. For each major river basin (grey areas) an ensemble of remotely sensed water balance combinations (example has 60) are corrected by enforcing mass balance closure and removing the residual term to be redistributed across components using constraints

I used NASA's Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) satellite to create a continental soil evaporation data set.
The soil evaporation data set (E-SMAP; Evaporation-Soil Moisture Active Passive) can be found on the Mendeley Data repository: https://data.mendeley.com/datasets/ffw8zbdmpm/2
The data descriptor, published in Scientific Data, can be found here.
