Team competing in National Ocean Sciences Bowl

NOSB Professional Development Webinars

NOSB Professional Development Webinars

The National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) is happy to announce a special professional development opportunity for middle and high school educators nationwide. All educators are welcome to register, and NOSB coaches are highly encouraged to participate.

The free online webinar series, occurring in January 2019, will focus on the 2019 NOSB competition theme of ‘Observe the Ocean; Secure the Future.’ The purpose of the series is to provide teachers with the opportunity to enhance their awareness and understanding of topics such as: how ocean observing addresses societal needs; the technologies and instrumentation that make observing possible; the challenges in processing, analyzing, and coordinating immense amounts of collected data; how ocean observations influence/inform decision makers; organizations and groups focused on ocean observing; and policy related to ocean observing. Learn more about the 2019 competition theme online.

NOSB coaches, please note: The seminar’s guest experts will be writing questions for the 2019 NOSB competitions!

Each of the presenters will give a one hour live webinar presentation on their current research or topic of interest, followed by a 30 minute Q&A session.

The links to each of the webinars will be posted on the NOSB website. All participants logged into the meeting will be able to listen and follow along with the presentation, as well as type questions for the presenter during the live presentation. The NOSB national office staff will read the questions to the presenter.

In addition to the live interactive portion of the webinars, there will also be asynchronous elements. Each presenter may post related educational resources on the  NOSB webpage, which will be available to you and your students to explore. Full video of the presentations will also be posted on the  NOSB’s YouTube channel

Providing a direct link between this seminar series and the NOSB competitions, each presenter will be writing questions for the NOSB competitions. Participating coaches will come away from these webinars with a much stronger understanding of this year’s theme and will be able to better prepare their students for the 2019 NOSB Regional and Finals Competitions.

How you can participate: Check for an invitation emails from the NOSB national office, or find the link on our Facebook and Twitter sites.  Any other teachers interested in participating may email the NOSB national office at nosb@oceanleadership.org or simply check the NOSB website for the links to each individual webinar.  We anticipate being able to accommodate all interested parties, but participation will be on a first log-in, first serve basis as space allows.
