Research Interests
Manoj C. Nair is a Senior Research Scientist in Geomagnetism at CIRES, University of Colorado Boulder, working with NOAA’s National Centers for Environmental Information. He develops and evaluates models of Earth’s magnetic field, with particular emphasis on crustal magnetic structure, time-varying disturbances, and uncertainty in navigation and surveying applications. His work connects satellite and ground observations with scientific software and operational services.
Current Research
His current research includes magnetic-navigation reliability, distinguishing magnetic signals from Earth’s interior, oceans, ionosphere, and magnetosphere, and physics-based and machine-learning approaches to geomagnetic and space weather modeling. He is Principal Investigator of the MagMapper and CrowdMag projects, which use smartphone magnetometry for environmental research and citizen science.
