Research Interests

I am a Research Scientist working at the NOAA/GSL lab in Boulder through CIRES. Prior to joining GSL, I did my Postdoc with the Climate and Atmospheric Sciences group at the Illinois State Water Survey located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2020-2023. I am interested in using the numerical weather prediction models such as Unified Forecast System (UFS) and Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) at high spatial resolutions in order to test and improve the model parameterizations for extreme weather events involving widlfires/emissions. For my doctoral research, I modified the WRF model framework to simulate user given buoyant emissions from large area sources mimicking wildfire emissions. I have hands-on experience with instrumentation platforms such as Doppler LiDAR, 3D Sonic anemometers, air quality sensors, Schlieren and thermal imaging sensors.

My research interests include:

  • Understanding boundary layer turbulent processes through models and observations
  • Land-atmospher interactions
  • Transport and dispersion modeling of airborne elemetns

Current Research

  • High-resolution Fire-weather modeling using UFS dynamic core
  • Wildfire smoke transport and dispersion studies using model and satellite data
  • Developing and testing plume-rise model parameterizations
