Yingfei Chen
PhD Student
Research Interests
My name is Yingfei Chen, and I earned my bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Wuhan University in China. I'm now a 4th year PhD student working in Chu Lidar Group at Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES).
Current Research
My research mainly focuses on studying thermosphere-ionosphere metal (TIMt) layers in the Earth’s Space-Atmosphere Interaction Region (SAIR) using high-sensitivity LIDAR systems. Besides analyzing LIDAR data, I’m currently working on the LIDAR operation at McMurdo Station, Antarctica and will lead the LIDAR campaign for the upcoming winter in 2024. My research on TIMt layers opens a new window to study the fundamental processes in SAIR, especially in the E–F regions where measurements of the neutral atmosphere are scarce but plasma-neutral interactions are rich.
