CIRES is organized into research laboratories that reflect scientific disciplines. Every CIRES employee is identified with a particular division, to streamline management, including annual evaluation and promotion.
The importance of cryospheric and polar processes to global climate has been documented by both observational and modeling studies, but many questions remain about the mechanisms driving observed shifts, as well as about what the future might hold.
The mission of the Environmental Chemistry Division is to improve understanding the chemistry of the atmosphere, land surface, urban, and aquatic systems using innovative observing and modeling techniques.
Much of the research within the Environmental Observations, Modeling and Forecasting Division focuses on monitoring and understanding the role and impact of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere at present and in the future.
