Climate and Weather

From hourly to seasonal to decadal and beyond, understanding the processes that drive weather and climate on different spatial and temporal scales is critical to our society. CIRES researchers seek to understand the dynamics and interplay between weather and climate, as well as the short and long-term impacts on biological, physical, and social systems. The weather-climate portfolio is rounded out by research focusing on the design of resilient and sustainable systems, including the assessment of tradeoffs associated with weather and climate related policies. CIRES has an international reputation in this research arena, and scientists routinely lead and contribute to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, the US National Climate Assessment, as well as weather and climate preparedness efforts at regional, state, and local scales.
