MOANA: New Zealand Ocean Bottom Study of Seismic Anisotropy
We will use measurements of seismic anisotropy from both land and ocean bottom seismic stations combined with geodynamic modeling and laboratory measurements of rock deformation to better understand how tectonic plates deform at depth.

Deployment of ocean bottom seismometer offshore New Zealand

Locations of the ocean bottom seismometers (blue triangles) deployed in Jan-Feb 2009. The locations of broadband New Zealand Geonet stations are shown by the red triangles. The locations of four temporary broadband land stations are indicated by the purple triangles. These four stations were provided by PASSCAL and Victoria University of Wellington.
