Research Interests

Dr. Andrey Grachev is a research scientist with the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado and NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory (Physical Sciences Division) located in Boulder, CO. His research focuses on the atmospheric boundary layers over sea/land/ice, turbulence in stratified fluids, air-sea interaction, and Arctic research. He has participated in numerous research field campaigns and sea cruises from the Tropics to the Arctic unraveling the intricacies of the atmospheric and oceanic turbulence. His work is devoted to making in-situ measurements of the turbulent fluxes and surface meteorology for understanding and proper parameterization of the surface fluxes for climate modeling, weather forecasting, environmental impact studies and other important applications.

Current Research

• Atmospheric boundary layers and turbulence in stratified fluids over land/sea/ice
• Measurements of the atmospheric turbulence and flux parameterization
• Air-sea interaction; Arctic research; Atmospheric processes over complex terrain
• Heat/mass transfer in near-wall flows
