Lianna Nixon


Lianna Nixon is an award-winning photographer, filmmaker, and climate science educator. She specializes in topics in the Arctic regions, Alaska, and US interior. Prior to her work with CIRES, Lianna worked in conservation photography with National Geographic photographers, GEO Germany, and conservation organizations around the world. She also works as a wilderness photography guide in Alaska and Svalbard. She has worked on several projects at CIRES including filming an award-winning planetarium film and co-designing curriculum for the Multidisciplinary drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate (MOSAiC). She received her Master's Degree in Education: Learning Sciences and Human Development at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She is passionate about connecting people to our planet and how we can use technology, media, and intersectional environmentalism to explore these connections.
