Research Interests
I am the facilitator and scientist for the Flash Flood and Intense Rainfall (FFaIR Experiment) that is part of the Hydrometeorology Testbed (HMT) at the Weather Prediction Center (WPC). As such, I organize and run the testbed experiment and analyze the results and findings; which are written up in a Final Report. I also help support other testbeds that the HMT hosts and daily HMT operations, including developing and maintaining HMT websites. Since the majority of my time is spent on FFaIR and other HMT things, I have little time for research and developement, though I am working on an ARI-based ERO product and a project examining HREF precipitation probabilities.
Outside of the office, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, camping, and petting all the dogs.
Current Research
- ARI-based ERO (AERO) - Development, testing, evaluation of an excessive rainfall outlook centered in average recurrence interval exceedances.
- Evaluation of probabilistic precipitation forecasts from the HREF - analysis of the HREF neighborhood probabilities as they relate to heavy rainfall forecasts.
- Tracking and evaluating the RRFS's wet bias.
